This is a wonderful and highly inspiring set of Qur’anic teachings, truly representing a roadmap for noble ethics and righteous living. Looking at them, we find that they encompass all aspects of human behavior: justice, honesty, respect, compassion, self-discipline, good speech, cooperation in good, and avoidance of evil.

They can be roughly divided into key themes to better understand their practical value:

1. Values of Justice and Truthfulness:

“Be just, do not commit aggression, do not mix truth with falsehood, do not speak about what you have no knowledge of, fulfill the covenant of Allah when you make a promise, give full measure when you weigh or measure, use the upright balance.”

These instructions protect society from injustice, fraud, and deceit, and encourage justice and truthfulness in all dealings.

2. Values of Morality and Personal Conduct:

“Do not walk arrogantly on the earth, do not turn your cheek in pride to people, lower your wing (be humble) to the believers, lower your voice, be moderate in your walking, turn away from the ignorant.”

They urge humility, calmness, self-discipline, and avoidance of pride and arrogance.

3. Values of Forgiveness and Tolerance:

“Accept forgiveness and enjoin what is right, repel evil with what is better, do not nullify your charity with reminders of your generosity or harm.”

These encourage forgiveness, tolerance, and acting with kindness, whether in wealth or dealings with others.

4. Values of Communication and Respect:

“Speak justly, speak kindly to people, and when greeted, respond with better than it.”

They emphasize good speech, respect, and politeness in daily interactions.

5. Values of Social Responsibility and Compassion:

“Be good to your parents, to relatives and orphans, feed the destitute and the poor, give orphans their wealth, spend from what We have provided you.”

These highlight compassion, social justice, and care for the weak and poor.

6. Values of Cooperation and Avoidance of Evil:

“Cooperate in righteousness and piety, do not cooperate in sin and aggression, safeguard your oaths, be with the truthful.”

They instill the spirit of collective work for good, warn against participating in evil, and encourage honesty and integrity.

In short, these teachings represent a complete constitution for life: they safeguard the individual, ensure happiness for society, and lead to success in this world and the Hereafter:

The Qur’an encourages general etiquette:

{And do not walk arrogantly on the earth. Indeed, you will never pierce the earth, and you will never reach the mountains in height.} [Al-Isra 37]

{Do not turn your cheek [in contempt] toward people, nor walk proudly on the earth. Indeed, Allah does not like everyone self-deluded and boastful. And lower your wing to the believers; and lower your voice. Indeed, the harshest of sounds is the braying of donkeys.} [Luqman 18-19]

Is there anything more beautiful than these Qur’anic instructions for achieving noble morals?

-------------

The Qur’an was not sent down for blessing through recitation, nor for adorning walls with its verses; rather, God sent the Qur’an to guide our lives.

Religion is a way of life, not merely rituals, as our ancestors taught us. Therefore, the Qur’an must be revived once again from the graves and mourning to life, recited for the living, not for the dead. It is not necessary to have a copy of the Qur’an in your pocket, but it is necessary that a verse be manifest in your character. Smile at everyone; the measure is not in how much you memorize or read the Qur’an, but in how the Qur’an has reached within you. Do not tell people how much you memorize or read, let them see the Qur’an in you.

The Qur’an mentions love for the needy, the poor, and the orphans:

{And they give food, in spite of love for it, to the needy, the orphan, and the captive, saying, "We feed you only for the sake of Allah. We desire from you neither reward nor thanks."} [Al-Insan 8-9]

So feed a hungry person, clothe the naked, help the needy, have mercy on an orphan, forgive the wrongdoer, and honor your parents.

It also says:

{And say, "I am only a clear warner," just as We sent down on the divided ones who had made the Qur’an into portions; and by your Lord, We will surely question them all about what they used to do.} [Al-Hijr 89-93]

The Qur’an regulates our lives:

He controlled our voices: “And lower your voice”

He controlled our walking: “Do not walk arrogantly on the earth”

He controlled our gaze: “Do not extend your eyes”

He controlled our hearing: “Do not spy”

He controlled our eating: “Do not waste”

He controlled our words: “Speak kindly to people”

Thus, the Qur’an can guide your life and grant you happiness in this world and the Hereafter.

A verse summarizing all Islamic religion:

{Righteousness is not that you turn your faces toward the east or the west, but [true] righteousness is [in] one who believes in Allah, the Last Day, the Angels, the Book, and the Prophets, and gives his wealth, in spite of love for it, to relatives, orphans, the needy, the traveler, those who ask [for help], and for freeing slaves; and establishes prayer and gives zakah; and fulfills his promise when he promises; and is patient in poverty and hardship and during battle. Those are the ones who have been true, and it is those who are righteous.} [Al-Baqara 177].
