Religion, Truth, and Conflicts Religion, in its essence, was never meant to divide, but to guide humanity toward love, justice, and reconciliation with God. Yet history bears witness to the opposite: religion has often been used as a weapon, sanctifying hatred, war, and domination. The Gospel warns us through the words of the Apostle Paul: > “If I speak in the tongues of men and of angels but have not love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal.” (1 Corinthians 13:1) And Christ himself taught: > “Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of God.” (Matthew 5:9) The Qur’an affirms this same principle: > “And do not let the hatred of a people prevent you from being just. Truth, Humanity, and Difference Truth has always been the most elusive quest of humankind. Philosophers, prophets, and seekers have pursued it through reason, revelation, and inner contemplation. Yet truth, by its nature, resists confinement within a single formula, tradition, or creed. The Hebrew Scriptures declare: > “God made man upright, but they have sought out many schemes.” (Ecclesiastes 7:29) The Gospel echoes this in the words of Christ: > “You shall know the truth, and the truth shall set you free.” (John 8:32) And the Qur’an proclaims: > “And do not mix truth with falsehood or conceal the truth while you know it.” (Al-Baqarah 2:42) From these converging voices arises a universal testimony: truth is not the possession of one nation or religion; it is the common light of humanity, entrusted to all. The Question of Scripture Distortion and Islam’s Position on the Torah and the Gospel One of the most debated theological issues between Jews, Christians, and Muslims is the question of the integrity of the sacred texts. Did the Torah and the Gospel remain intact, or were they subject to alteration by human hands? In the Qur’an, God acknowledges the existence of the Torah and the Gospel as divine revelations, guiding humankind before the descent of the Qur’an: > “Indeed, We sent down the Torah, in which was guidance and light.
